Workers go on strike at Winnipeg’s Richardson International Airport

WINNIPEG — About 150 unionized workers at Winnipeg’s Richardson International Airport have gone on strike.

The workers – members of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees and the Public Service Alliance of Canada – set up pickets overnight.

Union officials say seven days of contract negotiations ended at 6:00 p-m yesterday without an agreement being reached.

The employees include duty managers, administrative workers, I-T staff and airfield maintenance workers who have been without a contract since June of last year.

The airport says it has contingency plans in place to avoid disruptions in flight schedules.
