Mecca’s new hotel will break all records with 10,000 rooms

MECCA, SAUDI ARABIA — For the 15 million Muslims who make the pilgrimage to Mecca each year, finding accommodations will soon get a lot easier.

The *****’s biggest hotel is being planned for the popular pilgrimage site, complete with 10,000 rooms, 10 towers and 70 restaurants. Named the Abraj Kudai, the US$3.5 billion development is being constructed by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Finance, says Lonely Planet.

Initial impressions of the mega-hotel depict up to four helicopter landing pads, a ballroom and conference hall, plus one of the largest domes in the *****. There will also be entire sections that will be closed off to cater only for royalty.

Upon completion, the 1.4 million square-metre complex will break all records, surpassing Malaysia’s First ***** Hotel which currently has 7,351 rooms across two towers.
