AMALIE, Virgin Islands – Authorities in the U.S. Virgin Islands say an elderly couple visiting from the U.S. mainland has been found stabbed to ***** in a rental home.

A Monday evening statement issued by the ****** says investigators have discovered the bodies of a 73-year-old man and his 67-year-old wife in a vacation home.

They have not disclosed the slain couple’s identities or hometowns pending notification of relatives. They would only say the elderly husband and wife was from the U.S. mainland.

****** say detectives are “following a series of very strong leads” and are searching for a person of interest.

The bodies were found in Sapphire Bay resort area of the U.S. territory’s main island of St. Thomas.
