WestJet says system outage delaying some flights

CALGARY — WestJet Airlines says a system outage Thursday morning is delaying some flights and intermittently impacting the company’s operations.

The infrastructure outage is affecting the *******’s check-in processes at airports, as well as flight planning and payment services on the *******’s website.

The ******* is encouraging travellers to arrive at the airport early and check their flight status for potential delays, and says it is working to restore service as soon as possible.

On Twitter WestJet posted this message: “An intermittent IT outage is impacting @WestJet’s airport check in, flight planning and website and operations. We will continue to provide updates and appreciate our guests’ patience and understanding. Guests impacted will be reaccommodated.”

Earlier today, at 9:45 a.m. MT, WestJet said its check-in and gate services nationwide had been restored. “At this time, self-serve ******* drop continues to experience issues at Calgary (YYC), Ottawa (YOW), Saskatoon (YXE) and Halifax (YHZ). We continue to encourage guests to arrive early and check their flight status before heading to the airport.”

In the latest update, posted at 11:41 a.m. MT, WestJet said: “We are working with all external parties to fully resolve and can confirm we are also impacted by the Zayo outage. Across our network we have seen three cancellations and more than 100 flights have been ******* as a result of the outage. We continue to thank all guests for their patience and will reaccommodate all impacted guests on the first available flight to ensure they get to their destination as soon as possible. At this time, self-serve ******* drop continues to experience issues at Calgary (YYC). Guests travelling from YYC are encouraged to arrive early to have ******* processed by an agent.”
